“Timid men prefer the calm of despotism to the boisterous sea of liberty.”
I came across this line from Thomas Jefferson in July while reading about our nation’s founding 250 years ago, and it really stood out to me.
As I was thinking through all our nation has accomplished and all the challenges it has faced, it is clear that Jefferson was right. It is easier to sit back and ignore what is happening in our country. To accept the dangerous growth of power by those who hate our country and the ideas that make it great. It is easier to look away from the direct threats to our freedom.
But doing the hard work to preserve liberty has always been Turning Point USA’s mission. I’m grateful for patriots like you who refuse to accept the “calm of despotism.’
Though nearly 250 years old, his warning remains timely. Just weeks ago, the co-chair of the Democratic Socialists of America went on Fox News and, with a straight face, confirmed their radical agenda.
Deconstruct the U.S. Senate, tear down the Supreme Court, defund the police, open the borders, give amnesty to illegal immigrants. We have heard the Left talk about these dangerous ideas and policies over the past few years, but they are getting bolder. And they are getting more extreme.
As Americans, we must ask ourselves: do we ignore these fundamental threats to our nation and society because it is the easy thing to do? Or do we fight them head-on, knowing the risk and the challenge but also knowing it is the right thing to do?
This is exactly why Charlie started Turning Point USA. This is exactly why our mission continues instilling pro-America, pro-freedom values in our nation’s youth and in our nation’s communities. This is exactly the impact you are making.
Will you continue equipping and empowering patriots across the country to defend
America’s founding principles as radicals continue to try to tear them down?
The Left won’t back down from pushing their radical ideas and resorting to destruction, including vandalizing our new statue of Charlie at our Phoenix headquarters. So we must go toe-to-toe in the battle of ideas.
At Turning Point USA, we refuse to back down against this challenge.
– Our campus speakers are “picking up the mic” on over 400 campuses this fall, continuing the debate, dialogue, and civil discourse Charlie started.
– High school “Club America” chapters are growing across the country, with over 5,000 chapters on campuses.
– TPUSA Faith supports over 12,000 faith leaders as they stand for truth in the face of dangerous ideas.
– Americans are encouraged to check their voter registration status to ensure they can make their voice heard.
– Communities are being united by shared, pro-freedom values while radicals try to divide them with “identity politics.’
One of our college student activist leaders, Kay from Florida, told our team recently:

Turning Point USA not only helped me discover my voice but also gave me the confidence to use it boldly, unapologetically, and without fear of others’ opinions. Kay is one of millions of students, community members, and faith leaders who are a part of the Turning Point USA mission and who refuse to be “timid.”
This is the mission Charlie started. This is the mission we must continue to undertake. This is the fight we must win generation after generation.
